Speaking as an out Irish gay man living in Manchester, its outrageous that in this day and age that homophobic hate crimes are still happening because some people still cling onto outdated and illogical ideas about gay people - I go back to Ireland on a regular basis and I have heard from friends in Dublin that homophobic hate crime is still a problem in rural Ireland, where in some cases the police encourage the victim to stay quiet about it, perhaps because they share the offenders homophobic attitudes - why should gay people have to live in fear because of some homophobic idiots still seeing it as a great "laugh" to go "gay bashing" - its something that really makes me so angry
