Be a legacy legend!
We have seen over the last decade progressive legislation that has included unprecedented rights and protections under the law for lesbian, gay and bisexual people (LGB).
However, whilst some public attitudes have changed, many have not and homophobia is still very much here and present within our society today.
Many LGB people are living with the daily reality of homophobia and many are still living their lives in secret, not publicly acknowledging their sexual orientation for fear or ridicule or abuse.
LGB people don’t want GAY rights we just want equal rights!
- The right for LGB people to be ordinary and to live their lives with dignity and respect.
- The right for LGB people to be all that they can be and to achieve their full potential.
- The right for every LGB person to have the confidence to be out and proud about who they are and what their sexual preference is in all circumstances, when they choose and the right not to be judged or attacked when they are.
- The right for LGB people to be accepted for who they are, where they live, by their families and by their neighbours, where they work, by their bosses and by their work colleagues, where they receive public services, by their doctors, in hospital, in their schools, by their teachers, classmates, and by other parents.
- The right for LGB people not to be abused, shouted at or beaten in the streets and not to be the victim of a hate crime.
- The right for LGB people to be affectionate with their partner in public, and not self censor their behaviour because of fear of what others might do or say.
We need to plan for the future and it is for these reasons that we are asking you to help us to plan ahead and continue our vital work of making sure that the next generation can keep fighting for LGB equality in your name; to protect future generations from the misery of homophobia and homophobic abuse that many LGB people have suffered and are still suffering.
It is for these reasons we are asking you to leave a legacy to The Lesbian & Gay Foundation in your will.
Thirty years ago gay activist Harvey Milk said: “At what point do we say Enough! At what point do we stand up, as a total group, and say we will not allow it to happen anymore? Enough is Enough!”
