The LGF is a registered charity fighting for and supporting lesbian, gay and bisexual people.

Volunteer

A great way to get involved in the LGF - our volunteers are vital in helping us reach out and support so many people. If you are interested in finding out more about volunteer roles at the LGF read on!

Ever since the LGF was founded over ten years ago, we have worked in partnership with our volunteers without whom our services could not have continued and grown.  We currently work with over 150 volunteers, and you can find out more about what they do in our Role Profiles section.

Volunteers have access to regular social events, with planned activities for the coming months including an LGBT heritage walk round Manchester, a Wii competition and a coffee morning where we meet for a brew in Manchester.

We also provide our volunteers with training for the role they are doing, as well as training in mental health, alcohol interventions, sexual health and more!

In this year’s annual satisfaction survey, 98% of our volunteers agreed that they would recommend the LGF as a place to volunteer.

Just some of our positive feedback includes:

“The LGF is a welcoming environment.  I feel trusted and respected for the work I do in my volunteer capacity”

I feel that I am fully support by the staff and receive all relevant training, I have gained many new skills and have improved my confidence to speak to people and also at the same time learned som much more about the LGB&T community.  I feel so lucky to be part of the LGF”

How to Apply

The way we recruit for volunteers is through welcome events.  The reason for this is that many of our roles require training, so by recruiting people in groups we can ensure that training is provided to you and you can get started as quickly as possible!   It also means that we can accommodate the hundreds of you who apply to get involved with us each year!

At a welcome event you can expect to:

·        Hear from The Lesbian & Gay Foundation’s Volunteer Manager, Claire Taylor

·        Meet existing volunteers and staff members

·        Have a tour of the building

·        Have access to role profiles and current volunteering opportunities

·        Fill in an application form for any roles you are interested in!

If you have any access needs or requirements then don’t hesitate to contact claire.taylor@lgf.org.uk to arrange for these to be met.

The next welcome event is on the 5th November at the LGF office.  Email volunteer@lgf.org.uk to be added to the email list for more information, or call 0845 3 30 30 30 and speak to Claire Taylor or Nigel Maddock.

Large Events

Each year we have some huge events on our calendar where we need support from everyone in the community, whether it is through marching with us on the Pride Parade or fundraising over World Aids Day.  For these events, you don’t necessarily need to be a registered volunteer!  You can help us out by giving just a few hours of your time and make a huge difference to the success of these events.

Our next large event is:

World Aids Day:  We’ll be fundraising on World Aids Day (1st December) as well as the weekend before and after.  We need your help with street collections, taking a tin into your workplace, putting up posters, calling companies to ask them if they will collect and more.  Email claire.taylor@lgf.org.uk to register your interest!
