Filming has started on a new six-part lesbian drama called Lip Service, which is due to be aired on BBC3 next year.

The series follows the sex lives and love affairs of twenty-something lesbians living in Glasgow.

Today, the show's producers announced the actresses who would be starring in the bold new drama.

Ruta Gedmintas
(Spooks) plays Frankie, a provocative photographer who avoids commitment at all turns; Laura Fraser (Nina's Heavenly Delights) plays Cat – Frankie's former lover, who may not be as immune to Frankie's charms as she professes to be; and Fiona Button (The Palace) plays Tess – Cat's best friend and flatmate who has an uncanny knack of attracting all the wrong sorts of women.

Manchester Pride patron and former London's Burning star Heather Peace will take on the role of Sam. While, ex Hollyoaks star Roxanne McKee stars as Lou.

The series has been written and created by Harriet Braun (Mistresses, series one, and co-creator of Attachments).

Anne Mensah, Head of Drama BBC Scotland, said: "The series takes a very vivid and authentic look at the lives and loves of modern British gay women on the cusp of life. The quality of the cast that the scripts have brought to the table really speaks for itself and Lip Service promises to be an emotionally-charged and utterly enjoyable drama series."

After Hollyoaks killing one of its resident lesbians off and turning the other one into a murderess, lets hope Lip Service and the next series of Skins (due in January) presents the modern lesbian in a more positive light.

  • Its cool they are doing this for the lesbian community but it sounds just like Far Out. Is it the same show remade? They have a Frankie and a Cat.
