Gaga turns out to support Manchester HIV charity

30 Jun 2009

Pop Diva Lady Gaga visited Body Positive North West yesterday and hopefully redeemed herself to fans across the city who had missed seeing her over the weekend.

Not letting 'The Fame' go to her head, Gaga met volunteers at the centre for people affected by HIV in Whalley Range and helped out with a huge mural portrait that volunteers had created in her image, painting the words, 'Love + Art + Kindness' onto it.

The singer had picked the project to visit because she knows a lot of people who are affected by the virus.

'I have lots of people in my life who have been affected by the virus and a lot of gay and lesbian friends who are confronted with fears about that sort of lifestyle and the situation of HIV that we have to be mindful of everyday. I am a very supportive, proactive woman and I really just wanted to paint with them today," she said.

"They are so vibrant and its art and love and togetherness. It is everything that should be around the very serious thing that is HIV."

Volunteers at the Body Positive North West centre receive free gig tickets in return for working in the community, through the Orange Rock Corps scheme. The volunteers have now earned a ticket to her gig at the Manchester Apollo on July 13.

Gaga ArtThe only hope now is that she turns up. Gaga disappointed some fans by calling in sick for her support act at last weekends Take That shows at Old Trafford cricket ground on Saturday and Sunday night.

Not surprisingly this made her unpopular in the city especially after she appeared at Glastonbury over the weekend but she has insisted she will return to the stage for the final performances of the Circus Live tour.

She also told the Manchester Evening News that she would return to her support slots with Take That at Wembley Arena on July 4 and 5.
