Volunteering opportunities

There are a lot of ways you can be involved in the helping the Lesbian and Gay Foundation:

  • Helpline Operator – offering help and advice to the LGB community during the evenings, either by telephone or by email.
  • Library and Archive – indexing resources and helping with the promotion of the service including developing a lending system.
  • Modelling/PR work – to help us in promoting relevant campaigns (such as the Condom and Lube packs or pictures in our range of guides), as well photos for our regional magazine and web features.
  • Journalism – there are a variety of opportunities available that relate to our monthly magazine ‘outnorthwest’ (read by over 35,000 people), including: scene reporters, event reporters, writing various articles and photography – these all help us keep up to date with what’s going on in the LGB community where you live!
  • Design work – help us design anything from articles and adverts in our magazine, through to posters, key resources such as our range of guides, promotional postcards, and web pages.
  • Events and Fundraising – help us collect charitable contributions from the public either by bucket rattling, organising an event, selling raffle tickets, promoting our donor scheme, hosting a party, running a marathon, helping us over Pride and World AIDS Week, and many more!
  • Rampton – help us facilitate social activities at monthly group meetings with patients at Rampton Hospital.
  • Trainer – could you help us deliver our internal training programme and help us develop relevant training courses?
  • Groupwork – help us prepare and co-ordinate sessions for one of our regular social and support groups.
  • Health Trainer – help us deliver intervention work within Manchester’s LGB community; promote LGF activities and campaigns in a variety of venues; and host LGF sexual health clinics (if appropriate).
  • Face to face Counselling – help us to provide an excellent Face-2-Face counselling service to the LGB community.
  • Office Administration – no volunteer list would be complete without the mention of helping us in the office with general tasks, including mail-outs, database management, research surveys and more. It may not always be sexy, but it’s still vital to our work.
