Benefits of counselling

Talking provides an opportunity to discuss your feelings and things you may not have previously discussed with anyone. It provides a safe and non-judgmental environment to explore these feelings, which can provide a helpful learning opportunity and instill confidence. In addition to overall improvements in quality of life, counselling can also offer the benefits of:

  • Increased self-esteem and feelings of confidence
  • Improvement in relationships
  • Increased ability to express yourself
  • Help you to cope with your life easier

We all have the potential to become fully functioning people who live happy lives. But we sometimes experience problems that block us from unlocking this potential.

Last year, some of the main issues people attended the LGF’s Face 2 Face Counselling Service for were:

  • Relationship issues
  • Self-esteem
  • Isolation and loneliness
  • Depression
  • Anxiety

The benefit of coming to the LGF for counselling is that there is not the added pressure of disclosing your sexuality or gender, as would possibly be the case with other agencies who may not be LGB affirmative.
