women's safer sex packsThe Lesbian and Gay Foundation's groundbreaking work around women's sexual health is set continue in 2009, with the launch of a lesbian and bisexual women's safer sex pack and a reprint of Beating Around The Bush - their guide to sex and sexual health for women who have sex with women.

The LGF are famous for their condom and lube schemes and safer sex information for men who have sex with men, but for a long time women have wanted a safer sex pack they could call their own.

The free lesbian and bisexual women's safer sex information pack, contains 2 water based lubes and sexual health information on sexually transmitted infections, cervical smear tests and risky behaviour. The safer sex pack is supported by the Department of Health.

The LGF have also announced a reprint of their popular sexual health resource - Beating Around the Bush - for women who sleep with women. First released in 2008, there was an overwhelming response to the resource, highlighting the great need for targeted sexual health information for lesbian and bisexual women and service providers.

Annie Emery, Women's Programme Manager at The LGF said: 'There is so little funding available for women in general, and lesbian and bisexual women are often not prioritised, meaning that their specific needs are rarely supported.

'We are extremely pleased to be able to produce these resources, as we know they are highly valued by lesbian and bisexual women and the health professionals that work with them.'

  • Surely the pack should include a dental dam, and shouldn't a pack aimed at bisexual women contain a condom? Has no forethought to the end-users been taken into consideration?

  • Good to see such an initiative for lesbian and bisexual women's sexual health. It is indeed true that very little funding is available for women.
