Gentlemen of a certain age

To coincide with National Coming Out Day 11th October 2011, The Lesbian & Gay Foundation (LGF) with the support of Taurus Bar are presenting ‘Gentleman of a Certain Age’, a photographic celebration of older gay and bisexual men.

The project was devised by Robin Nicholson, a BA Hons social work student currently on placement with the LGF. The exhibition is a collaborative work in progress with Manchester-based photographer Robert Martin capturing images of men ranging in age from 50 to 85.

Robin said of the project, “I want older gay men to see this exhibition, identify with the images and see themselves in a positive light. The exhibition aims to encourage gay men to feel positive about getting older and embrace growing older as something that can be celebrated.”

The exhibition will be on display in Taurus, Canal Street from 10th October to 12th October and is also available below this article as an online gallery.

The exhibition aims to show that life as a gay man continues beyond thirty and to portray the range of life experiences and wisdom that only comes when you reach 'a certain age’.
