Didsbury Medical Centre and Northern Moor Medical Practice received their GOLD Pride in Practice award!
Pride in Practice is a quality assurance service provided by The Lesbian & Gay Foundation to GP practices to support improvements in health outcomes for their lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) patients, as well as strengthen their engagement with, and understanding of LGB people.
“We understand that many lesbian, gay and bisexual people have concerns about how staff in GP practices would treat them if they were to be open about their sexual orientation.
“We want to make it clear that everyone regardless of sexual orientation, race, faith or anything else - all patients will receive excellent treatment here at Northern Moor Medical Practice.” Practice Manager Phill Coglan commented.
“No one group of people is more important than another. Some groups face more discrimination of health inequalities than others and quality assurance marks like Pride in Practiceprovides us with a check list and insight that ensures we look at service delivery from all of our patients perspectives.” Didsbury Medical Centre Practice Manager Lynn Beazley.
“The National GP Survey found that LGB people were twice as likely as heterosexual people to say they have no trust or confidence in their GP, so through working with the LGB community and with GP Practices we are hoping to see things become more equal next year,” Kathy McGuirk, Pride in Practice Project manager added.
Do you identify as lesbian, gay or bisexual, if so then are you ‘out’ to your GP? Do you think it would be beneficial to you or your GP if you were ‘out’?
If you had have had a positive or negative experience with your GP/nurse related to your sexual orientation, we would really like to hear from you to help support the work we do with health professionals. Call 0845 3 30 30 30 and ask for Kathy or email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
