Ben's Story

Ben, 43, has volunteered with Manchester LGF for almost 10 years. During this time, he has been Chair of the Board of Trustees as well as a Counsellor. Ben has brought a range of skills and experiences to the LGF, a lot of which has been underpinned by his experiences in the army, work in the business sector and as a counsellor.

Ben joined the LGF because he wanted to give something back to the gay community and was particularly impressed by the work of LGF. He initially got involved as a ‘Poster Boy’ for some of their sexual health campaigns, and he hasn’t looked back since!

Ben has been an active member of the volunteer team; helping at Pride events and activities for World Aids Day. In the capacity of Chair of the Board of Trustees, Ben has also delivered a number of key speeches to different audiences!

Ben has a real passion for the work he does at LGF: “Just the ability to help people carry on with their daily lives is all the motivation I need!” he tells us. “In two or three cases my interventions have probably prevented people from committing suicide.” The work not only inspires him, but helps him become more gregarious and inquiring.
