Woodlands Medical Centre strikes GOLD

Woodlands Medical Centre receives their GOLD Pride in Practice award for delivering fully inclusive healthcare services to their patients.

Pride in Practice, delivered by The Lesbian & Gay Foundation is a quality assurance support service that strengthens and develops a GP Practice’s relationship with their lesbian, gay and bisexual patients. You can find out more information here.

Dr Sarah King completed the clinical sections of the Pride in Practice assessment and was delighted to achieve the GOLD award. "Delivering the best quality care to lesbian, gay and bisexual patients is very important for our practice so it was fantastic to achieve the GOLD award. The meeting with Kathy was engaging and informative while providing us with a refresher of best practices. It was a good reminder as to why it is so important to never assume someone sexual orientation and to understand the unique problems faced by the lesbian, gay and bisexual community.”


Kurtis Starkie is the Practice Manager. "I worked at another surgery before joining Woodlands and they achieved their Pride and Practice award. I was eager to engage my new practice and the whole staff in the services. I think it is really important that all staff have an awareness of the issues facing lesbian, gay and bisexual patients and can assist meet their needs with sensitivity and care. The workshop gave the staff both the knowledge and confidence to assist people who might be struggling with specific needs related to their sexual orientation whilst giving patients a choice of services where appropriate. I am delighted to have achieved the GOLD award!”
