Manchester World AIDS Day Partnership is leading on a whole host of events across the city this week to raise awareness of World AIDS Day Dec 1st and support those living with HIV.
Manchester’s Official World Aids Day Candlelit Vigil
On 1st December at 7 pm the annual candlelit vigil will be held in Sackville Gardens in Central Manchester as an opportunity to think about those affected by HIV.
A much more low key affair than the vigil which traditionally closes Manchester Pride on August Bank Holiday, the World Aids Day Vigil is particularly poignant as it brings together those who have been affected by HIV from across the city, and provides an important opportunity for us all to come together in support of people living with HIV throughout the city and across the world.
The annual red ribbon wreath will be laid at The Beacon of Hope and there will be a special opportunity to leave personal cards and messages around the fencing of The Beacon if you would like to share your thoughts and feelings.
Cards and pens will be provided on the day. During the event we will observe a one minute silence. The Vigil is free to attend although donations for candles are requested.
Any proceeds from the Vigil go to organisations supporting local people living with HIV. All are welcome but please do dress up warmly as it can get quite chilly! Please join us after the vigil if you can for festive refreshments at Eagle Bar.
After Vigil - mince pies, mulled wine and Danyl Johnson!
As World AIDS Day is supported by the entire LGB&T community, Manchester’s Eagle Bar will be open to everyone for the duration of the night. Eagle is hosting a special ‘World AIDS Day' event pulling out all the stops to raise funds for local HIV causes.
Gaydio's Nicksy will be on hand to introduce the evening’s main attraction, an exclusive PA by former X-Factor finalist, Danyl Johnson. Danyl will also being sticking around after his performance as well.
On top of all of that there are raffle prizes kindly donated by local businesses. 1st December 2011 5pm - 3am. Everybody welcome! www.eaglemanchester.com
