Petition - stop Iranian gay execution

Published: 13 March 2008

Help save an Iranian man from certain death

Iran outline on rainbow colours

Mahdi Kasemi is a 19 year old gay Iranian. He came to England on a student visa. Whilst here he learnt that his boyfriend was arrested, tortured and executed for the 'crime' of being gay.

He believes that, under torture, his boyfriend gave the Iranian authorities his name. Mahdi sought asylum in the UK but was refused. Mahdi then fled England in fear of being deported and ended up in Holland. The Dutch authorities have now decided that he cannot claim asylum there and are now planning to return him to the UK. Because his claim in the UK for asylum was unsuccessful, there is now a very real possibility that he will be deported to Iran. If this happens there is an even stronger possibility that he will face arrest, torture and almost certainly execution.

Please sign the petition to try and save Mahdi from deportation and almost certain death. Please also try and do anything else you can to try and put pressure on the Home Office in the UK to allow Mahdi to stay here. You can write to the Home Secretary or lobby your local MP. Please let all your friends know, and ask them to do the same.

We cannot, and must not, allow a young man, whose only so called 'crime' is being gay, to be deported to almost certain death.

Thank you for your support.
