Get set for Leeds Pride 2008!
Published: 09/05/08
The people of Leeds will be celebrating all things gay this year when the town comes together for its summer pride event in August.
With a new theme of heroes and heroines for the day taking place on August 3, plans are moving very fast.
David Dabell from the organising committee explained: “We all have and we all are heroes and heroines. By heroes and heroines we mean anybody who has touched you in a good way, anyone you have looked up to, anyone you wanted to be, and anyone who has inspired you. So it could be yourself, a super hero, your mum or dad or someone from our history like Vita Sackville-West, Quentin Crisp, Divine or Hong-Kong Fooey.”
Millennium Square will this year play host to the pre parade main stage from 1pm featuring a galaxy of local and national talent including bands, DJs, performers and singers together with a handful of Mr Gay UK finalists.
The pride parade will then take place around 3pm with a number of colourful entries planned followed by scene party afterwards.
David added: “The scene party is going to be massive this year with Lower Briggate being closed off to traffic.
“The venues are pulling out all the stops to deliver the most memorable and mega day for our people.”
Organisers are currently inviting businesses, organisations and charities to submit an application for a market stall at the festival.
