Open Invite To World Firefighter Games in Liverpool, August 24th - September 2nd 2008
MERSEYSIDE Fire & Rescue Service is inviting members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities to come along and join in the fun of the World Firefighters Games 2008.
The Games are a real celebration of the firefighting profession, and WFG08 is gearing up to welcome more than 3,000 competitors from over 35 nations for the 10-day festival of sport and camaraderie. WFG08 takes place between August 24 and September 2, 2008, and are being hosted Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service as its contribution to the city's year as European Capital of Culture.
MF&RS is taking part in this year's Manchester Pride event and is keen to welcome all members of the firefighting community and general public to join the WFG08 party! A team from WFG08 attended last year's Pride event and took the opportunity to mix with other Fire Service personnel.
Fast forward 12 months, and MF&RS has now entered a float into Manchester Pride 2008 as a way of raising the profile of the Games.MF&RS's Deputy Chief Fire Officer Mike Hagen is fully supporting the initiative, so much so he will be riding the Fire Bike in the Pride Parade on August 23. Mr Hagen commented: "Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service is extremely proud to be hosting the World Firefighters Games 2008. Equally, we are proud to have the opportunity to take part in this, the 18th birthday parade for Manchester Pride."
Manchester Pride provides an excellent opportunity for us to promote WFG08 and the ideals which underpin the spirit of co-operation and friendly competition. Pride also gives us the opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to creating a workforce as diverse as the communities we serve and show our commitment to provide a great service to all sections of the community. "We recognise that by taking part in Pride, we can send a positive image to the North West's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities - as well as having a great day out. I'd also like to extend a warm invite for people to come along and watch the Games events, the 10 days are going to be a real highlight of Liverpool's special celebratory year.Further information
