Manchester scores Rufus Wainwright Premiere

Tickets for star's debut opera on sale today!
Manchester International Festival, the world's first festival of original work, yesterday announced that gay singer/songwriter, Rufus Wainwright, will be debuting his new opera Prima Donna, at the 2009 festival. Prima Donna is a portrait of a fading opera singer, set in Paris and sung in French.
Festival Director Alex Poots said: "Rufus Wainwright has an exceptional gift for melody and clearly has a deep affinity with opera. We're delighted to be working with him as he moves into this new form."
There will be five performances of Prima Donna at Manchester's Palace Theatre; they will take place on the 10th, 14th, and 17th of July (evening), and on the 12th and 19th of July (matinee).

Tickets are priced between £12.50 and £47.50. Manchester International Festival, are keen to point out that Rufus Wainwright will not be performing in Prima Donna.
