Canal Street Drowning

GMP need your help!
Greater Manchester Police commemorated the week anniversary of the death of Alexander Lynch, with an operation that included: speaking to members of the public around the canal tow path, and issuing leaflets and posters around Canal Street's bars and restaurants, appealing for witnesses.
Detective Superintendent Julian Ross, told the Lesbian and Gay Foundation, that Thursday night's (Oct 9th)operation went well, but that the police are 'concerned', although not 'surprised' about the amount of information they received. They spoke to many people, but only one person chose to leave their details.
GMP are doing everything possible to establish what went on on the tow path, and how Alexander 'Jimmy' Lynch came to be in the canal in the early hours of Friday October 3rd. They have been working closely with the LGBT community, and have been leafleting in all of the Canal Street bars.
DS Ross said that another anniversary visit was planned, but that the date was yet to be confirmed. He said that the police want to be open and visible in the area.
However, he was quick to quash rumours that the police are patrolling the canal area in plain clothes. He said that these reports were 'not right'. DS Ross, also informed us that the Police were not erecting an information pod near the incident scene, beacause they felt people would not be confident enough to enter it.
As reported last week, GMP are still looking for witnesses and are especially interested in finding two men; one who tried to help Alexander, spoke to the police, and left Dale Street in a silver car, and another man, who was down on the canal tow path and then alerted the emergency services.
If you have any information with regards to Alexander's drowning, please contact the Major Incident Room at Wythenshawe on 0161 856 4711, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. You can also contact the Lesbian and Gay Foundation on 0845 330 3030 or email: helpline@lgf.org.uk
All information will be treated sensitively.
