Bridgewater Hall's world premiere for World Aids Day.

Jackie Kay and the Halle Orchestra join forces for event.
On Monday 1st December 2008 at 8pm, The Bridgewater Hall will play host to a performance of Fauré's Requiem, and a brand new composition called 'Walking Along the Red Dust Road'. On the occasion of the 21st World Aids Day, the concert will raise money for the international charity, ActionAid's Mission Malawi, a project working with people living with HIV and AIDS in Malawi, Africa.
The evening will include the world première of a brand new piece, a secular Requiem entitled ' Walking Along the Red-Dust Road'. Seven new HIV-related texts by acclaimed Manchester-based poet Jackie Kay MBE, will be set to music by seven different composers, including Craig Urquhart, Errollyn Wallen, David Horne and Marc Yeats.
Award winning writer Jackie Kay said: “I was delighted to be asked to contribute to this fantastic project, and hope that my poems will help to emphasise some of the issues and tragedies that still surround HIV/AIDS.”
Mission Malawi, originally conceived by Manchester-based Les Pratt, has raised £250,000 to date. It funds ActionAid projects in Malawi, and also in Zimbabwe and Mozambique, to raise awareness and support for those living with HIV and AIDS.
