Stonewall's updated LGBT recruitment guide out now!
The guide is the fourth and biggest edition of Starting Out, Britain’s national lesbian and gay recruitment guide.
Now featuring 325 potential employers, it is designed for graduates and job-seekers and is targeted at the 150,000 lesbian, gay and bisexual students in Britain.
20,000 hard copies of Starting Out are being distributed to Student’s Unions, University Careers Services, Employment Agencies and University Lesbian and Gay Societies. To download the guide online click here.
Employers that are in the Stonewall recruitment guide include many North West organisations such as: Blackpool and Fylde College, Manchester City Council and Liverpool's Primary Health Care Trust.
This year’s guide has been recognised by the National Union of Students, which is the largest student body in the UK, who will also be helping to distribute the guide throughout the year.
Stonewall’s Diversity Champions programme for major employers advises organisations across the public and private sectors wanting to support lesbian, gay and bisexual staff and recruits. The programme now has over 440 members employing 4.5 million people.
The 2003 Employment Equality (Sexual Orientation) Regulations made workplace discrimination against lesbian, gay and bisexual people unlawful. Employment tribunals can award unlimited compensation to people who face discrimination or harassment at work on grounds of their sexual orientation.
However, Stonewall’s research shows that while British attitudes towards lesbian, gay and bisexual people are improving, 1 in 5 LGB people have faced workplace discrimination in the last 3 years.
