A word from the Director
Trevor Burchick MBE, Pride Games Director
“Already, in the run up to Pride Games 2007, we have seen an increase in participation at the Team Manchester sport and leisure groups, with a significant increase in memberships being reported.
Our first LGBT Youth Games is full and ready to roll and a new sports club is launched at Pride Games called Open Athletics. The Open Athletics team will be delivering our Athletics Tournament and supporting the Youth Games.
We have our first ever Aquathlon, which is a run and a swim on Thursday 16th. We are launching the Diversity Scroll against Homophobia, especially in sport, which will be available for signing at Hollywood Studio and Lounge, Friday August 17th, and the Diversity Dinner at the Lowry Hotel 7.30pm till 10pm.
At the heart of the village we have the AXM Pride Games Hub, a centre for entertainment, a meeting place, an information point and above all a fabulous show venue with Gaydio and a range of headline acts, all brought to you by AXM-Bar.
Sunday’s Sport+ will feature our first 10k run, a surf simulator and Bungee run! Amazingly, this is just the tip of the iceberg, there is much more going on.
Phew! I am so proud and grateful to all our volunteers that have given 110% effort over many months and made this all possible. The focus is on participation from all abilities, whether you are a novice or trained athlete, you can swim, dance, party or watch, and all in friendly surroundings.
It’s up to you, so I hope you take this fabulous opportunity to make the most of it. It all starts with the Pride Games Summer Santa Dash this Sunday at 10.30am outside the Lowry Theatre. Just turn up and we’ll take it from there! Welcome to Pride Games 2007”.
