Military Pride
Imperial War Museum North's Military Pride exhibition presents a unique snapshot of military life for gay men and women.
The military has long been an institution which has embraced the essence of what is perceived by some as the pinnacle of what it is to be British. The LGB military community has experienced a slow yet eventual progression for acceptance to be served the honour to stand in uniform and be proud of their sexuality.
There were times when a persons sexuality was not even discussed, after all, it wasn't until the end of the last century that is was disallowed to be a part of the LGB community and serve in the military.
Then you have the era of "we won't ask and you won't tell" and eventually after years of campaigning we have reached a point where at last LGB and now T people can sign up to their chosen career knowing that their sexuality will not impede their progression.
