DJ Carmen's Blackpool Scene March '08
So, let’s start by talking about what’s happening for the girls in Blackpool this month… Well, Blackpool scene is a very mixed scene and in almost all venues you will find a great mix of gay girls and boys. However, although not classed as a lesbian bar, Lucy’s Two has developed the reputation of being the bar for the girls (although all are welcome).
I visited Lucy’s Two a couple of times while on my hols and the friendliness of the bar is so warm and welcoming and a real girls community exists down there.
As well as this great community spirit you’ll find a wealth of entertainment from DJ Vanilla on Saturday nights with her wit and lively music to popular karaoke and race nights - something for everyone!
Well of course we are soon stepping back into the peak season here in Blackpool as we come closer to Easter, and the start of the season also brings us one step closer to Blackpool Pride (May 17th and 18th).
With pride of course, comes our fabulous pride fundraisers, but more details to come from me on those next month! To keep bang up to date check out the pride Blackpool website here.
Don’t forget if you are planning to come to Blackpool for Pride weekend do try and book your accommodation asap, as hotels are filling up very quickly.
I’ve been asked to give a mention and a thank you to everyone who supported the Pride launch night on 31st January at Mardi Gras. Just short of £2,000 was raised with thanks to everyone’s generosity particular to the contributing artists and DJ Zoe of Funny Girls for giving their time to help raise the money.
Congratulations to Stella Artois of Mardi Gras for recently being made a patron of Body Positive in recognition of her hard work for the cause.
Pepes are celebrating their 21st birthday and would like to speak to anyone who can remember Pepes 21 years ago. If you do have any memories please contact John in the venue or e-mail: pepes@itpleisure.com
Pepes also have special events planned on and around St. Patricks Day (14th - 17th March) so make sure you take a look!
Starting in March, there are new look Friday’s at Trades Bar “Bootcamp” for you guys into leather, jocks, boots, military and sportswear (scallies). The Flying Handbag have just launched new look Sunday nights as usual with DJ Folly at the helm and live vocalists at 10.30pm every week.
So plenty going on in Blackpool as I put my pen dow for another month. Have a fantastic time on the scene and I hope you get all the chocolate you can eat for Easter (don’t forget Malteasers are my favourite!). Until next month enjoy many happy and safe nights out.
With Love Carmen xxx
