Interview with Kate Lawler
Kate displays her DJ skills on the MainStage on Friday 24th August.
How did you get involved with Manchester Pride?
I’ve always gone to London Pride, the whole Pride festival is always a great laugh and I remember in Soho Square a couple of years ago going last minute and having the best fun. I’m proud to be DJing for it too.
What sort of response do you get from a queer audience?
Actually, I’ve never played in a gay bar or club so this will be a first for me. I hope the response is the same as I’d get from a straight audience. I like playing music that’s driving, uplifting, banging and good enough that clubbers will want to dance, so fingers crossed they enjoy it.
A resident post at Sankeys in Ancoats sounds like fun. How’s that going?
It was something I’d always dreamt of doing but never had the time to do, so two years ago I took some time out to finally do something new and DJing started from there.
What’s next for Kate Lawler?
I’ve just finished my first remix of Its Love(trippin) by Goldtrix. Hopefully it’ll do well.I’m not going to release it, I just want togive it to my favourite DJs and hope it gets played. Next up is making my own original track so watch this space...
