No show for LGBT Fashion Show at Blackpool Store
13 May 2009
But still plenty to look forward to this weekend at Blackpool Pride 2009
As Blackpool gets ready to celebrate its increasingly popular annual LGBT Pride event this weekend (May 16 & 17), we are sad to report that one of the more unique events of the weekend has had to be postponed.
Blackpool Debenhams was set to make the unprecedented step of throwing the gauntlet down to other national brands by really getting behind their regional Pride; not only by having a float in the Pride parade but also showing off their spring / summer collection with an all inclusive fashion show. The show planned to feature models from the lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and heterosexual communities - dressed in all the latest styles by the store's Personal Shopper.
Unfortunately, the event has had to be cancelled because the organiser of the event has experienced a family bereavement and there is no one available to take over the organising of the store's Pride events on this occasion.
Debenhams Blackpool told LGF online that they are still committed to the event and taking part in Blackpool's premier demonstration of LGBT equality and inclusion next year.
'I was so looking forward to it' says Store Manager Graham Dickenson. 'We would have been the first store to do something like this and bring together different sections of the community to tie in with Blackpool Pride. However we are committed to organising a float for 2010 and doing another fashion show with more people involved.'
Ten of the staff at Debenhams were planning to take part in the show itself that was due to take place this Saturday as part of Blackpool's Pride Weekend
