Peter Tatchell talks just plain sense
2 Jul 2009
Rights campaigner Peter Tatchell talks to Christine Burns MBE on her fantastic blog 'Just Plain Sense'.
In the podcast, Christine talks to Peter about his life campaigning from sixties Australia to travelling the world today fighting for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender human rights as well as looking to the future and keeping up the fight for equality.
He goes on to explain what he experiences when he prepares for a protest and how taking direct action is sometimes the only way to challenge injustice where polite means have failed.
For those people who think that the battle for equality is over for LGB and T people, Peter goes on to talk about what we still have to fight for here in the UK and the plights of people around the world and how he is looking to the political world to put some weight behind his current campaigns as well as how the recent Equality Act enshrines discrimination.
Peter Tatchell also talks about his group Outrage in the nineties and the episodes of outing public figures. He also name checks Queer Youth Network in the UK for currently carrying the activist torch.
Christine Burns has worked in the field of eqaulity and diversity advocacy for over 15 years and set up Plain Sense Ltd to further her consultancy. She also chairs the North West region's Equality and Diversity Group — a forum for over fifty public, private and voluntary sector stakeholder organisations, including the Regional Assembly, the Regional Development Agency and Government Office North West.
