'Fostering is the most rewarding career'
“We’re holding a very informal information event a The Lesbian & Gay Foundation offices in the city centre for people to come along and chat with us about the invaluable role foster carers have in society” explained operations manager, Lisa Young.
“Children and young people from vastly diverse backgrounds and needs are referred to us each day and we take great care to ensure they go to the carers who can meet and exceed those needs. Sometimes, we know a child would flourish in a solely female or solely male household and it’s awful to have to refuse to place a child or young person simply because we don’t have the right carers for them. We desperately want to change that situation and that is why we are so keen to recruit lesbian and gay people”.
Greater Manchester based Ruth and Julie joined Fostering Solutions five years ago and found the whole experience to be positive and rewarding. “From the moment we made that initial phone call to Fostering Solutions, throughout the assessment process and our fostering career to date, we have felt welcomed, valued and respected. The process of becoming a foster carer is the same for everyone and we could never imagine having any other career. We’ve cared for babies from birth and teenagers of both sexes and have provided a safe home for girls who’ve had negative experiences of men. For us it is the most rewarding and fulfilling career and we would heartily recommend it.”
